'The Amazing Spider-Man': not the first comic book to get the reboot
While the gap between 'Amazing' and the last Spider-Man movie is only a few years, reviews for the new version have been fairly positive so far.

The new film, starring Andrew Garfield as the webslinger and a cast of kind-of-new main characters, is being billed as a reboot of the trilogy that came to theaters starting in 2002 with ?Spider-Man,? directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire. The first one was received positively by critics and audiences, and ?Spider-Man 2? was widely acknowledged to be even better than its predecessor, with actor Alfred Molina taking on the role of the villainous Dr. Octopus (that?s Doc Ock to you). Then ?Spider-Man 3? came, which both critics and audiences agreed was too stuffed with villains and plotlines and is perhaps best remembered for its sequence in which an evil Maguire dances in a jazz club.
A fourth movie by the team who produced the last three was planned, with a release date announced, but ultimately Raimi told the studio he couldn?t produce a film in that timeframe and still meet his personal standards.
?While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job,? the director said at the time when they decided to put the kibosh on a fourth film and go with a reboot.
So now we have ?The Amazing Spider-Man,? a new version five years later that centers on hero Peter Parker?s time in high school, which was briefly addressed in the first installment of the Raimi series. However, leading lady Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) and best friend Harry Osborn (James Franco), as well as Harry?s villainous father Norman, are gone (for now, one presumes). Director Marc Webb?s film, ?The Amazing Spider-Man,? brings girlfriend Gwen Stacy back to the forefront after the character had made her first appearance in ?Spider-Man 3,? played by actress Bryce Dallas Howard, and introduces Dr. Curt Connors, who has never appeared in a ?Spider-Man? film, as its villain. Connors later becomes the sinister Lizard.

Did You Know Email Blasting Can Put Your ... - Business 2 Community
Imagine if your emails were no longer welcome anywhere on the Internet? How would it impact your business if every email you sent bounced back ?undeliverable to recipient??? It?s nothing short of a nightmare and it?s not easy to fix, trust me, I?ve experienced it first hand.
Having experienced the above mentioned nightmare, I wanted share email marketing tips along with some of what can go wrong with email marketing and how to avoid it.
1. Use an email service provider. Sending email blasts from your personal email account or from a home office will likely result in your Internet service provider blocking you from sending all emails. There are limits to the number of emails you can send a day from a personal email account or a home internet account (i.e. @comcast, @aol, @cox). I one time did an email blast to 250 people through my Comcast account and was blocked so I could no longer send emails at all.?? I should mention that I was was emailing from my business (@printerbees) account, not my @comcast account!!! It didn?t matter that I personally knew every person on the list, they considered it spam, because it was a personal Internet service account. It was nothing short of a disaster, and they are didn?t care how it impacted me or my business. It took weeks to fix.
2. Don?t spam! Spamming will result in your domain name being blacklisted. I want to stress that it is your domain name, not just your email address. Getting blacklisted on the Internet can result in having to start over with a new domain name, new email addresses and of course a new website. When a domain name is blacklisted on the Internet, it?s kind of like having a scarlet letter? The Internet will shun your site, Google will stop sending you traffic and they will remove your site from their index.? Spam just makes people mad anyway, so what?s the point?? Focus on emailing the people who actually want to hear from you, it?s much more successful marketing.
3. Use a ?throw away domain? for email marketing to protect your main domain name from being black listed. A throwaway domain name is a domain name similar to your actual domain used exclusively for email marketing purposes. It keeps your main website clear of danger from being blacklisted. Even when using throw away domain, don?t spam! Spamming doesn?t leave a good first impression of your business and the programs out there in cyberspace keep getting more and more advanced at ?picking off? spammers. Don?t spam! it doesn?t work, it makes people mad and organic email marketing lists are so much more effective.
4. Keep your email list clean and up to date. Routine blasts to old lists result in a lot of bounces and emails sent to dead email accounts. Email lists that are old and out and date are a sure sign of spam to the ISP?s.? Most people who email market are unaware of this, it?s a newer method of catching/blocking spammers.? One of the greatest benefits of using an email marketing service provider is their ability to keep track of the bad/dead email addresses so you don?t email to them repeatedly. They help keep your list clean in this regard.
5. Provide valuable information in your email marketing. When every email received from a company is selling something, those emails are eventually tuned out and seen as spam. When a person perceives they are being spammed, they tend to hit the spam button on their email. If too many people click the spam button on their emails from you, you will get blacklisted.? Providing your email list with information which adds value will result in your emails being read. When people read your emails frequently, they will remember you when they have a need for the products or services you offer. It?s definitely okay and I encourage you to do email promotions, send promotions mixed in with good and valuable information, it?s a great recipe for improving email deliverability and open rates.
When you spam people, you?re just making them mad, leaving them with a bad first impression of your business. No one likes Spam! Build an email list of people who wish to hear from you by offering information of value in your email communication. Building an email list isn?t easy, but the payout is big when you have a large list of subscribers you look forward to reading your email.

A 150-million-year-old predatory dinosaur fossil points to evidence that dinosaurs evolving into birds were not the only ones to have feathers.

The 150-million-year-old fossil of the predatory dinosaur?Sciurumimus albersdoerferi is the first evidence of feathered theropod dinosaurs that were not closely related to birds.
"All of the feathered predatory dinosaurs known so far represent close relatives of birds," said study team member Oliver Rauhut, of the Bayerische Staatssammlung f?r Pal?ontologie und Geologie. "Sciurumimus is much more basal within the dinosaur family tree and thus indicates that all predatory dinosaurs had feathers."

Theropods were bipedal ? walking on their hind legs. Most were carnivores. Many theropods are known to have had feathers, but none so far down at the base of the theropod's evolutionary tree.
The fossil, of a baby Sciurumimus, was found in Bavaria. Remains of a filamentous plumage were preserved, indicating that the whole body was covered with feathers, the researchers said in a statement. (The slender dinosaur also had a baby face, the researchers noted, with its eyes proportionately much larger than those of adults.)
"Under ultraviolet light, remains of the skin and feathers show up as luminous patches around the skeleton," said study co-author Helmut Tischlinger, from the Jura Museum Eichstatt.
"This is a surprising find from the cradle of feathered dinosaur work, the very formation where the first feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx was collected over 150 years ago," said study team member Mark Norell, chair of the Division of Palaeontology at the American Museum of Natural History.
The discovery is detailed this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Facebook stock: How it's fared since IPO

It lost 27 cents, or nearly 1 percent, to close at $31.09. That's down 18 percent from its public offering price of $38.
The?stock?has been up on 14 trading days and down on 16 since its initial public offering.
Facebook?began trading publicly in mid-May following one of the most anticipated?stock?offerings in history. The IPO priced at $38, at the top of a projected range that?Facebook?had already boosted just days earlier.
Although many investors had hoped for a big first-day pop,?Facebook's?stock?opened on May 18 at $42.05 and fluctuated between $45 and $38 throughout the day. It closed barely above its IPO price, at $38.23.
The?stock?had fallen sharply in the weeks following the IPO, going as low as $25.52. It had been making a comeback over the past two weeks.
The company, along with the investment banks that led the IPO, is the subject of dozens of shareholder lawsuits. They allege that analysts at the large underwriting investment banks cut their financial forecasts forFacebook?just before the IPO and told only a handful of clients.?Facebook?and the banks overseeing the IPO insist that nothing about its IPO process was illegal or even out of the ordinary.

Cell biology: New insights into the life of microtubules
ScienceDaily (July 2, 2012) ? Every second, around 25 million cell divisions take place in our bodies. This process is driven by microtubule filaments which continually grow and shrink. A new study shows how so-called motor proteins in the cytosol can control their dynamics.
The cytoskeleton plays a central role in the process of cell division. It is composed in large part of protein filaments known as microtubules, which also help determine the size, shape and mobility of a cell. In a new study, LMU biophysicist Erwin Frey and his colleagues Anna Melbinger and Louis Reese have used a theoretical model to show how cells control the construction and breakdown of microtubules. The dy-namics of this process affect how cells divide, and how they maintain the cytoskeleton. In particular, it is responsible for regulating the size and shape of the mitotic spindle.
Easy come, easy go
Theoretical modeling has now revealed that the regulation of microtubule length relies on the length of the filament itself: The longer the filament the more motor proteins can attach to it. These all move towards the 'plus end' of the microtubule and tend to pile up as they do so. Upon arrival at the plus-end they shorten the filament. In parallel, new microtubule building blocks bind to precisely the same 'plus end' through spontaneous polymerization from the surrounding cytosol, and the filament grows.
It has now been demonstrated that such interplay between growth and length-dependent shrinkage indeed results in the maintenance of a precisely regulated microtubule length. This kind of length regulation might be essential for many intracellular tasks which depend on microtubules of a certain length.
