Welcome to Patch's snapshot of sports in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

Here's a rundown of Friday's?Cheer Clinic for younger girls at the SHHS from coach Wendy (Brand) Yancey:

There was a lot of yelling, jumping, shouting, moving and dancing in the Sleepy Hollow High School Gymnasium on Friday, October 5. It was not your Sleepy Hollow Varsity Football Cheerleaders. The noise was coming from the ?Future Sleepy Hollow Cheerleaders."

The Sleepy Hollow Varsity Football Cheerleaders coached by sisters and former cheerleaders themselves, held their second annual Cheerleading clinic. Sister coaches, Cindy and Wendy (Brand) were excited and very proud of the performances showcased by the young girls. The future cheerleaders ranging from grades second through eighth were able to learn some of the famous Horsemen cheers as well as get a sneak preview of the choreographed dance performed by the Varsity, which is set to be performed in front of the high school students at their pep rally next week. Each girl learned cheers from the Varsity cheerleaders whose captains are Essence Bronner, Thalia Sanchez, Ashly Richie, and Samantha Dorazio.

?It was outstanding. We had more girls participate this year than we did last year," Yancey writes. "We even recognized some girls who participated in last year's clinic. It is our goal to keep feeding the cheerleading program and to hopefully bring back the Wolfpack Cheerleading program. The young girls had a lot of fun and the Varsity cheerleaders enjoyed showing off their stuff as well as getting to know the young girls in the community. Both of us were cheerleaders for the Wolfpack program when we were very young. Our coaches were Sleepy Hollow High School Cheerleading captains when we were members of Wolfpack. We then became Varsity Cheerleaders once in high school. We can still remember who our coaches were when we were young. It was exciting and cool being ten years old, going to a Varsity football game, and watching our coaches cheer on the Horsemen. It was like they were famous. That was something we looked forward to doing once we arrived to Sleepy Hollow High School. We enjoyed it so much, we are still here as adults, and can?t give it up.?

The Sleepy Hollow Cheerleaders are not your typical cheerleading squad. Most high schools have squads who participate in cheerleading competitions. The duo sisters say they are not that squad. They have a unique style. ?A lot of the cheers consist of stomping, stepping and dancing. They enjoy the way the crowd gets involved in the cheers. Though, this year they have made up a lot of newer cheers, which look like your ?ESPN? style of cheering. They say they have been trying to mix it up. It is not their goal to stray away from what everyone expects them to do, but they love the new and different mix of cheers.

The Sleepy Hollow Varsity Cheerleaders had an outstanding turn out at Friday?s event. The participants were all invited to join the Varsity girls at the Sleepy Hollow Varsity Homecoming game scheduled for Saturday, October 13 at Sleepy Hollow High School at 1:30 PM, where they will also perform on the track.

Wild wedding melee caught on camera

A 15-year-old captured a harrowing end to a ballroom wedding over the weekend, during which he said, shocked, "They just decked the bride." The bride's 57-year-old uncle died of a heart attack within hours of the brawl. NBC's Janet Shamlian reports.

Updated at 6:40 p.m. ET: Philadelphia police were called to a hotel early Sunday to break up a brawl between guests of two wedding parties, and when it was over one man was dead of a heart attack and three people were cited for crimes.

A guest at the Sheraton Society Hill Hotel shot cellphone video of the brawl in the hotel lobby and posted it on YouTube.

Police said arguments started in the hotel bar and escalated to a melee not only between guests from the same wedding party but also between guests from two separate wedding parties, philly.com reported.?

"There was an issue with a lot of alcohol fueling the fight," police spokesman Lt. Ray Evers was quoted as saying.

The video shows a chaotic scene in which uniformed police officers try to separate and subdue several guests. One officer is seen repeatedly striking at least one person with a baton. A woman's blood-curdling screams are also heard.

Two people were cited for disorderly conduct and one person was cited for assault on a police officer. That person was shocked by a Taser, according to police.

A 57-year-old man, who police say was a wedding guest, suffered a heart attack and was pronounced dead at Jefferson University Hospital.

Police say there would be more arrests.

The Sheraton Society Hill Hotel released this statement:

"We continue to cooperate with the authorities and as this is an ongoing police investigation any questions should be directed to the local police department. ?Our sincerest condolences go out to the family for their loss."

The Art of Letting Go: Control | Family Matters

Humans are not very predictable creatures. Their behavior is governed by their emotions and instincts and the problem is that their emotions change and most of their behaviors are subconscious, so they cannot be fully understood by others.

This inability to predict how others will react makes people a bit anxious about their relationships and to overcome this feeling, they try to control the world around them. They try to control situations, events and other people's behaviors, words and actions in a desperate attempt to control the outcome.

The desire to control the outcome means you have an attachment to the outcome. Stating your desired outcome to others puts pressure on them to achieve it and usually means you are feeling out of control. Many parents fall into that trap in their parenting style. They make their mind up to "help" their kids reach an outcome and they do everything they can to achieve it.

Wanting things to happen is not a problem. Even wanting them to happen in a certain way it is not so bad. The problem is when you will do anything to get there, even if it means jeopardizing your relationships with others or making them feel bad.

Controlling is always a sign of insecurity and feeling powerless, helpless and out of control. After all, if you have the power, why would you keep seeking it?

People use different methods to control their life:

1. Develop perfectionism to make sure that things will always happen the same way, because that is much more predictable and safe.
2. Complain to make others change their behavior to fit what the complainer wants.
3. Criticize - this method is a higher version of complaint. In this method, the criticizing person considers him/herself in a higher position and measures others by his or her own personal standards, while presenting them as absolute.

Let go of perfectionism

I always say that perfectionism is one of the prisons of the mind, because it sets you up for constant disappointment from yourself and others. Perfectionists are very hard on themselves, as well as others. Let this attitude go and set yourself free.

Recognize the attachment to a desired outcome. Every expectation you have that is not met is an attachment. Learn acceptance and forgiveness methods and develop your appreciation of diversity. It will help you develop many new, happy and fulfilling relationships and bring you to a place where your mind is at peace with the world around you.

Complaining is a way to control the world using words of disappointment and discomfort. People think that complaining can change the situation when in fact it makes the situation worse. People do not like hanging around complainers and try to avoid their company, which gives the complainers more reasons to complain. It is a cycle that never ends.

In her book Loving What Is, Byron Katie considers complaints as "arguments with life/reality/God". When things happen a certain way, you have all the proof in the world that they happen that way, so why argue they should not be that way?

The way to give up control by complaining is to develop a positive mindset, a Pollyanna style that includes gratitude and seeing the good in everything. It is easy to find out that you are controlling. If you are expressing any discomfort or desire that things will be different, you are complaining!

Issues with controlling husband

Hi,

First time posting on this site.

My H and I have been together for 8 yrs, married for 2. We have a 1 yr old son.

My H has always been tidy and very particular about the way he likes things. I am easy going but I can be lazy.

We have recently moved to a very large house and I was excited about entertaining friends and family, having people to stay. However my husband is very particular about the way he likes things. We regularly argue about the housework, he tells not washed the dishes correctly or left the ironing pile too long. The truth is I am struggling as I don't want to be cleaning the house all day and would rather spend time with my son or relax.

My H also only ever wants his family to come over. Over the years I?ve spent more time with his family than my own because it is easier that way. If I invite my family or friends over then we argue about something - he doesn't want me to go to effort preparing food for them or he picks out parts of their personality that he doesn't like and tells me that "they best not do this when they come over". He also likes to pick and choose which of my family members or friends come over and he gets very upset if plans change and someone else comes unexpectedly.

It?s not just with people coming to the house either. If I want to visit someone I have to run it by him first, and he usually thinks of reasons for me not to go. I want to visit a friend who lives two hours away. He?s told me that she is stupid, he doesn?t like her and that there is no point seeing her anymore now that she lives so far away.

I think that all this narrows down to his issues with control. He hates being out of control of a situation. In turn he makes me feel useless because he'll never let me take control of anything.

Is there any advice you guys can give me on how to help him? I want him to relax when people are over and I want him to feel he can give me responsibility for things. Is there anything I can do?

Sometimes I think about leaving, it's affected my relationship with my family and I now have few friends because it is difficult to see them when I want.

I want to get help but he refuses to go to a counsellor. I can see this situation only getting worse. Please help!
