I know, I used to travel to Disney World every year with my family too. Then my fiancee and I made it a tradition to go every year on our dating Anniverary. Then he asked me to marry him right in front of the castle. I really hope you get to go soon! It really is to most magical place ever and brings back all the happiness that has been in my life!

I?m so glad that I can bring just a bit of that into your life! Thanks so much for following and the wonderful compliment!

If I were entering your income I would list each sessions income and then total it when it was banked. On another page I would enter all the expenses with the date incurred. At the end of each month the amounts should be agreed to the bank balance.

Keeping a receipt book for cash received each session is an extremely good idea.

Lenovo ThinkCentre M92z

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M92z is a very good Windows 7 all-in-one business desktop. It's got quad core power, plenty of system memory, and a responsive two-point touch screen. Unfortunately, Windows 8 is right around the corner with new requirements that the system doesn't quite match.

Design and Features
The M92z is built out of standard black ThinkCentre plastic, and it looks essentially like a monitor with built-in speakers. It's very corporate-looking, matching the Lenovo components and ThinkPads you may have around your office. The system's 23-inch screen has a two-finger touch screen using the more established infrared touch technology, rather than the newer capacitive touch found on newer PCs. This isn't a problem for most business use, as corporate IT departments are unlikely to switch to Windows 8 anytime soon. Touch functionality on Windows 8 is optimized for five to ten point touch screens.

The screen is sunken into the bezel because of the IR sensors, which is less clean looking than the seamless capacitive screens like that of the M92z's consumer cousin, the Lenovo IdeaCentre A720 ($1,449 list, 4 stars) . That said, the touch screen was responsive, and the system's IPS panel was bright and visible from a wide angle. The system came mounted to a height-adjustable, pivoting and tilting monitor stand that tilted far back enough that standing users could comfortably use the system while standing. This is good for kiosk and POS (point of sale) applications like in a retial environment.

The M92z came with a wireless keyboard and mouse, which can be stowed if they're not needed. The keyboard in particular was comfortable to use and the keys felt great to type upon due to their concave, semi-oval shape. The keyboard/mouse combo uses a USB wireless dongle, which fits in one of the system's four USB 2.0 ports on the back panel. Alongside the USB 2.0 ports on the back are an Ethernet port, DisplayPort-in, DisplayPort-out, and a Kensington lock port. DisplayPort-out is useful for connecting a second monitor, while DisplayPort-in can support an additional laptop (provided it has DisplayPort) or desktop. DisplayPort-in can also extend the life of the system, since it can act like a monitor after the rest of the system has been deemed obsolete. We would like to see HDMI-in to support other devices, but since the ThinkCentre line is so business-oriented, the lack of HDMI is not a deal breaker.

Two USB 3.0 ports, audio jacks, plus a SD-based media card slot are on the left side. The system's tray-loading DVD drive is on the right side of the system. The webcam on top of the screen has a physical shutter, so you can be assured the camera is off when you're not using it. That's important for businesses with privacy policies, like government offices. It matches the innovative webcam shutter system we saw on the Lenovo ThinkCentre M71z ($917 direct, 4 stars) .

Like most Lenovo business systems, the M92z comes free of extra icons on the desktop. There are a few programs built into the system's SimpleTap touch-oriented interface, but you have to manually turn that on for the first time. You'll find eBay, Kayak, PayPal, and other services there. It's not ideal, but at least Lenovo made an effort to make some of the services work in the touch interface. It's certainly a better solution than putting a dozen extra icons all over the system.

Performance
Lenovo ThinkCentre M92z The M92z comes with an Intel Core i7-3770S processor, 8GB of memory, a 1TB hard drive, and Intel HD Graphics 4000. The combo is good enough for a 3,872 point score on PCMark 7, a test of the system's day-to-day performance. This is slightly faster than our midrange all in one Editors' Choice, the Asus ET2701INKI-B046C ($1,399 list, 4 stars) (3,512 points) , which has the same processor (but less memory). Both certainly outperform the aging Apple iMac 21.5-inch (Thunderbolt) ($1,199 list, 4.5 stars) (2,581 points) . Odd, since Apple is continuing to sell this model even though it is over a year old.

The M92z also did well on our multimedia tests: 1 minute 8 seconds on our Handbrake video test, 2:51 on our Photoshop CS5 test. The CS5 test in particular was fast for all-in-one PCs;p only the Asus ET2701INKI-B046C can match it. Systems like the recently reviewed Toshiba LX835-D3230 ($999 list, 3.5 stars) (1:17 Handbrake, 3:20 CS5) lagged behind the M92z. The 3D performance is as to be expected from an integrated Intel HD system: good for video, but only passable to poor for challenging 3D games like Crysis or Lost Planet 2. The system is fine playing casual games like Angry Birds or MMORPGs like World of Warcraft.

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M92z is a very good all-in-one PC for business. The system we tested came with 8GB of memory and a 1TB hard drive, so it can support even content creation workers like web layout folks and desktop publishing. It's certainly more than a match for the aging Apple iMac 21.5-inch platform and other utilitarian systems like the Toshiba LX835 series. However, its lack of 10-finger touch is likely to be a significant factor in future Windows 8 rollouts, so the system's eventual useful life has to be tempered by that omission. (That said, you can always use a Windows 8 optomized keyboard and mouse, but it's not the same as having a 10-point-touch screen.) It's not terrible: The system is one of the better Windows 7 touch-screen PCs out there. But the lack of 10-finger touch hold it back from unseating systems like the Asus ET2701INKI-B046C, our current midrange all in one Editors' Choice systems.

Pumpkin Parade Lives On

Pumpkin Parade Lives OnImage via Jaaarel on Flickr

Halloween season began with a fright after it was announced Thursday that the annual?Pumpkin Parades were in danger of cancellation. Fortunately, the parade will live on after a meeting between City of Toronto bureaucrats resulted in a pumpkin removal plan.

The City of Toronto will place pumpkin pick-up bins around the permitted pumpkin parade parks. This way, during and after the parade, pumpkins can be neatly discarded.?

Concern has been raised about pumpkins coming and going instead of all being lined up simultaneously. However, this is the city's solution to an otherwise cancelled event. It is also an attempt, on the city's behalf, to encourage a permit system because parks who have not applied for permits will not receive bins.

Permits can be obtained by calling 311.?

No press complaint over Prince Harry's naked pics

LONDON (Reuters) - The royal family said on Friday it would not lodge a complaint with the country's press watchdog over the publication of photographs showing Prince Harry cavorting naked in a Las Vegas hotel room.

Pictures of the 27-year-old prince, third-in-line to the throne, surfaced in August on a U.S. gossip website and were later published by the best-selling Sun tabloid - the only British title to run the photos.

Harry's office in St. James's Palace said the royals had decided not to pursue a formal complaint given the prince's current deployment in Afghanistan. It said it informed the Press Complaints Commission on Thursday.

By contrast, Harry's brother Prince William and his wife Kate launched a criminal complaint against the photographer who took topless pictures of her while the couple were on vacation in a French villa.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as the royal couple are formally known, were also seeking damages from French gossip magazine Closer, which first published the photos this month.

They have won an injunction banning the magazine from further publication and ordering it to hand the pictures over to the royal couple.

"Prince Harry is currently focused entirely on his deployment in Afghanistan, so to pursue a complaint relating to his private life would not be appropriate at this time and would prove to be a distraction," a statement from the palace said.

Harry, The Queen's grandson, returned to Afghanistan this month to fly attack helicopters in the NATO-led war against Taliban insurgents.

"We remain of the opinion that a hotel room is a private space where its occupants would have a reasonable expectation of privacy," the palace said.

The naked photos proved an embarrassment for the family after a summer of well-received Diamond Jubilee celebrations to mark Elizabeth's 60 years on the throne and royal appearances at the London Olympics.

How To Hire Contractors For Home Renovations

Author (tuckerjayden). Submitted on Fri, 28 Sep 2012

Owning your own home is a great experience, but it is not without its responsibilities. Every house requires maintenance and beyond that, every house can benefit from home improvements. You need not be afraid of doing your own work on your home. With a few quick hints like the ones below, you can attack home improvement work with confidence.

?

One of the best home improvements you can do when selling your home is to replace the old and worn-out carpets. This will make the property look nice and give a great impression on potential buyers. Buyers quickly get turned off if they think that they are going to have to replace the stained and tattered carpets in every room.

?

When it comes to home improvement, be sure to promote the leaks at your house to the top of your priority list. This is important because leaks can be either dangerous, detrimental to the structure of your house, or to your pocketbook. Check all water pipes and fixtures for leaks on a regular basis. Install a CO2 detector in your house for gas leaks.

?

Windows

?

Light is a premium often overlooked in home improvement projects. There are far, far more rooms in the world that are too dim than there are rooms that are too bright. Adding more light fixtures is almost always a wise home improvement job, and often a fairly simple one. In more extensive renovation work, installing more windows accomplishes similar results.

?

When childproofing your home, do not overlook your windows as potential danger zones. Dangling cords from blinds or shades pose a strangulation hazard, and your child can fall through a wide-open window, even if there is a shade in place. Take a look at each window in your home carefully and adjust your treatments and habits according to the dangers posed by each specific window.

?

Windows And Doors

?

Windows and doors make a perfect home improvement project. You can add an indoor window box or change out your old patio doors for French doors. It is often possible to find good deals on these types of materials at the home improvement store. You won't have to spend a lot of money to make a dramatic change.

?

Hunt down drafts in your house around your windows and doors, and seal them with insulation or weather-stripping to make your home more energy-efficient. On a breezy day, hold a lit candle or a stick of burning incense around the edges of your doors and windows -- with the drapes tied back away from the edges -- to easily spot drafty areas as the flame moves or the smoke wafts.

?

Little tips like these can keep the home improvement process painless and keep homeowners from getting frustrated. Working on your house should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience; educating yourself on the subject will ensure that this is the case. When you have the proper information ahead of time, even the most complex home improvement project can be a snap.

?

Significance of Product Reviews ? Service Provider and Consumers

Every good business man or woman knows that a product is never truly complete until it can meet the consumer?s needs entirely. This makes it necessary to get the opinion and evaluation of the intended client every time a new product is rolled out. It is through such evaluations and opinions that a product can be improved and made to suit the needs of many customers and not just a few people. In today?s business world, reviews on products are the best way to get a product made, seen and sold. Both consumers and entrepreneurs make use of this amazing provision to benefit from transactions.

    Product reviews for entrepreneurs

As earlier mentioned, business owners rely a lot on what the consumers have to say about their products. This is so because the customer?s opinion helps to point at the inefficiencies that the product may have. Correcting the existing inefficiencies gets the entrepreneur not just more clients but also better rapport with customers for future consultations about products.

The other benefit that business owners can gain from reviews written by their product users is ideas for new inventions. Customers usually have a pretty good idea about what they want and how they want it. They can help you make your product ideal by providing ideas about how they wish the product to work. Such ideas have led to the growth of several small companies into household names.

    Benefits of Reviews for consumers

As a consumer, it is important that you always check out the credentials of a company before buying anything from it. Most companies today have a reviews section that provides customers with all the information they need to know about the products and services offered at various companies. Of course it is possible for a company to falsify such information by providing reviews written by themselves instead of real users but this should not be a problem. There are sites that now deal purely in reviewing products and they can offer more than enough information for you.

Apart from the need to buy from a company with good credentials and genuinely good products, a consumer also needs to be able to voice their opinion about what their experience with the product was and whether it addressed their problem or not. Products should be tailor-made to meet the needs of customers and not the other way round. If the customer is satisfied, they will give great word of mouth marketing for the business. Addressing the needs of your customers earns you a loyal client base as well as great reputation online. The benefits do not end there however, the clients also feel appreciated and useful when their issue are addressed. As a consumer, a good company will get back to you whether or not your review was positive. It will also attempt to solve the issue you bring to the best of their ability. Companies that write sales-like product reviews are often unreliable as all they care about is making a sale and not providing client centered service.

Visit online websites know about Product Reviews, Know how they help both parties involved in a transaction i.e. the buyer and the seller.

High School in Less Than Four Years?

In Arizona, hundreds of high school students are now being offered the opportunity to graduate after their sophomore year ? as long as they prove their academic mettle.

As a part of an innovative initiative called Move On When Ready, high-achieving students who prove they are capable of taking college-level courses without remedial help, are allowed to move on regardless of their class stature.

Launched in 2011-2012, last school year about 12 schools in the state participated. This fall, the Center for the Future of Arizona (which supports the initiative and establishes the program in schools) estimates 30 high schools?including district, charter and private?now have Move On When Ready programs in place.

RELATED:?Want a Voice in Your Child?s Education? Live in These 10 States

"We were interested in participating because it's important for our students to have as many opportunities as possible for whatever career or college pathway they choose when they're finished with us," Cindy Miller, assistant superintendent for academic services in the Dysart Unified School District, told the Arizona Republic News. The Dysart Unified School District added the Move On program to two high schools this 2012-2013 school year.

High schools, which voluntarily sign up for Move On, agree to implement a high-expectations, performance-based program for every student. Rather than gauging a student?s success by the amount of ?seat time? or years logged in school, the student?s advancement is achieved when he or she masters the curriculum.

At the end of a student?s sophomore year, a rigorous exam is administered. If the student performs at a college-ready level, he or she will be given a Grand Canyon High School Diploma. At that point, the student can stay in high school and take more advanced courses for a selective college process, enter a community college or go on to pursue career and technical courses. If the student does not pass the exam, there will be another opportunity after junior year. The first batch of sophomores to aim for the Grand Canyon Diploma will take the test this spring.

Arizona has been a key state for recent educational innovations. The statewide graduation rate is approximately 70 percent, and many who do graduate require remedial courses at the college level.

    ?

The Move On initiative is part of the National Center for Education and the Economy's Excellence for All program which is working to create high-performance high schools also in Connecticut, Kentucky and Mississippi.

?Move On When Ready was created in response to K-12 readiness issues facing Arizona's students and the reality that students need an education beyond high school to succeed in today's global economy,? Dr. Sybil Francis, executive director of the Center for The Future of Arizona, said in a statement. ?The majority of students who enter college have to take remedial courses?courses that don't count for credit. Move On When Ready was developed with all students in mind to let them know what is required for them to be successful in their education beyond high school, and to provide a way for them to get there with less concern about how long it takes."

    Live?from the Built Green Conference 2012. Session 1 | Green ...

Coming to you live this morning from the Built Green Conference in gorgeous Mukilteo. We are at the Rosehill Community Center above the ferry terminal.

The structure this year is breakout sessions bookending a keynote speech at lunch. There also is an expo where we can meet vendors and other stakeholder sin energy efficiency and green homes. It is hard to decide which session to go to. I picked the one that best matches my personal interests and professional role as a real estate broker.

So I am in the Fowler Room in ?Transforming Markets: Community Power Works, 20/20 Home Refit Challenge, and Community Energy Efficiency Programs.?
This is a panel of multiple perspectives, including building science, outreach, marketing, and workforce development.
    Jason Lear (Batt+Lear)
Andrea Petzel (City of Seattle Department of Planning and Development)
    Ruth Bell (Community Power Works)
Dan Wildenhaus (Senior Building Science Specialist for Fluid Market Strategies)

    Topics this session
    Community Energy Efficiency Program
Do Energy Efficiency Programs transform markets?
Have local programs transformed our market?
    How do we know?
    What?s next?

Interestingly enough, I was an early participant in the Community Power Works program, before it reached its current iteration of providing a $95 energy assessment. A volunteer came to my home and talked about energy efficiency and how to cut your personal energy use. Low hanging fruit (one of the easy. low cost things you can do) included replacing all of our existing light bulbs with CFL bulbs. This was about two years ago. I had not changed out the light bulbs from when we bought the townhome as new construction in 2007. It is a 3-Star Built Green Certified home in the Built Green Certified Community of High Point in West Seattle. Besides energy efficiency, changing to a lower usage bulb makes your home more comfortable. All of those incandescent bulbs put out a lot of heat.

There are a number of measuring tools that are being utilized to show the results of the Community Power Works retrofits. Over 500 homes have been completed, with over 240 in the pipeline now. The gal si to reduce energy use by at least 15%. Only one home has not met that goa, anf there are some ?audacious? homes that are saving 50-60% in energy use on their utility bills.

    Building science
Rather than write all new specs, they use Department of Commerce specifications for building performance.
Reducing air leakage in a home (insulation)- leaky recessed lighting fixtures increases heat loss/gain, and can cause ice dam problems.
Most often performed corrective action taken in homes in the program:
    Air sealing
    Attic insulation
    Wall insulation
    Floor insulation
    uct sealing
    Duct insulation

Measurement used to be in carbon savings. Most people couldn?t understand it so it was changed to energy savings. Quality assurance has to be evaluate frequently so course corrections can be made. Programs like this leverage current training to bolster both new and existing workers and create not just jobs but quality companies.

    Who are the customers/
Income between $50-$150k. There is a significant drop off in the higher income brackets, perhaps these flks don?t consider government programs for tem. There also is a low number of households with people of color. Perhaps there is a language barrier or translation problem that needs to be increased. More outreach to lower income communities. There are cultural liasons speaking about 12 languages
33% of households have children in the home
Most homes were built before 1959.

    Average cost of upgrade $14,500
    Average CPW rebate: $2,600. (18%)
    Average utility rebates: $700 (5%)
    Customers with CPW loans: 25%

Washigton State University (WSU) is a big participant in the program, helping with surveys of homeowners after they have participated in the program.

    Now what? (Jason Lear)
20/20 Home Refit Challenge: 20,000 ohomes with 20% energy savings
Program participants get: Special financing and the market value of a Buitl Green Certification + Energy Score
Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union (PSCCU) has developed a special home equity loan for homeowners who participate in the program.
?Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union understands the challenge in affording energy-efficient alternatives for your home. We?re here to help with our Energy Smart Loans. Our loan products cover everything from heating and cooling, hot water tanks, gas conversions, windows and even renewable energy like SOLAR! Need to do some prescriptive measures before you can make your home more efficient? We can usually help with that as well.?

What is the future of Community Power Works?
Under negotiations now withs stakeholders trying to get interest gauged from utilities and assessing market need. By Jan or Feb 2013 there may be an extension to the program (but no new money coming in).

This is a working blog post and will be updated as more information becomes available to flesh out the details of this session.

How to Find Best Agent to Get the Best Deal? | Studio 39

Since the field of Property is growing like a catapult, there are so many realtors becoming a member of the business. Are you looking to buy new house or residence? Or are you looking to market your house or residence? Signing a realtor is nice option. Some people considers that, why realtor? There is some components favors realtor clearly. Particularly, realtor can guide you to buy or sell property quickly. I don?to go into deep within this subject. It is beyond context here.

I wish to discuss that which would be the factors should problem while signing the real estate professional? You should find very best realtor among the lot of realtors in lubbock.
First you are, back ground of the real estate professional. How much experience he/she provides? From how long he/she is in this business? More encounter means more standing. More experienced realtor can help to make best deal; irregardless you are buying or selling.
The way they are doing their advertising? After all marketing could be the heart of any business. Where they advertise like TV, radio, magazine, news paper and other publications and many others. It helps to do speedy deal. Ask them regarding how much success they got from the advertisement. You can keep them explain the whole process of advertising and marketing and how much men and women will see it.

Another question you should ask is, how much time will you acquire normally? Is it fulfilling your demand?
The amount of percentage he/she will take since commission? This is very real question. I think percentage would depend how hurry you might have. Because if you want to market or purchase speedily, you have to pay more money. So make deal based on your requirement along with best realtor.

Every single country or state or region features association of agents. They stay in touch with each other. That is good for absolutely free themes. For example, Pikes peak connection of realtors, the association of agents in Colorado State of USA. This specific association connects Denver Springs Realtors using the customers. You should uncover that the realtor you are signing is an affiliate the association such as this or not.
Another element is area. Read the portfolio of realtor. The realtor, who may have done many offers in your area, is good for a person. The realtor, that have more reputation plus much more experience, but he/she working in other area, is not significantly effective.

Now I wish to end my conversation with two important points. The first one can be, for how much time you need to make the deal? Several realtors put the property in their listing whilst there for one yr almost, because they have never much reputation or perhaps didn?t do proper advertising. Is it correct? No, not at all. Help to make deals for three in order to four months. There are plenty of realtors in the market. The idea doesn?t make sense that signing on realtor for long time. The opposite can give you best deal, if you give them chance. List a property for one 12 months, also bring the actual reputation of property lower. It is avoidable in order to lock with a single realtor for one year.

The second one is, speak to the old customers with the realtor. This is the best way to get the complete picture associated with realtor. Take the set of his/her old customers with their contact number. Contact all of them and ask about the exposure to the realtor. They are going to tell you the exact scenario. If they haven?capital t great experience, stay away from him/her. There are lots of realtors available. Go for other 1. Make sure that the customers you might be talking with you must be the your area or close by it. The customers involving other area have great experience, but could possibly be possibility that customers of your area doesn?t satisfied.

At the end, conclusion is, find the best real estate agent to get the best deal. Who?s the best realtor? Now you must the answer of this query. You can find it through the bunch. Test him/her using the question I have talked about and make decision. Your search of good real estate professional becomes very difficult, with there being so many people coming into this business regularly. There are so many individuals the Colorado Rises Real Estate, who has implemented this as a part business. So discover best Colorado Springs Realtor is easy in your case.

Two categories of multiple sclerosis patients defined

ScienceDaily (Sep. 26, 2012) ? There are approximately 400,000 people in the United States with multiple sclerosis. Worldwide, the number jumps to more than 2.1 million people. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach to treating the millions with multiple sclerosis, what if doctors could categorize patients to create more personalized treatments? A new study by researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) may one day make this idea a reality in the fight against the debilitating autoimmune disease.

A research team led by Philip De Jager, MD, PhD, BWH Department of Neurology, senior study author, has found a way to distinguish patients with multiple sclerosis into two meaningful subsets. The ability to categorize patients with multiple sclerosis may open new doors for treatment development.

The study will be electronically published on September 26, 2012 in Science Translational Medicine.

"Our results suggest that we can divide the multiple sclerosis patient population into groups that have different levels of disease activity," said De Jager. "These results motivate us to improve these distinctions with further research so that we may reach our goal of identifying the best treatment for each individual who has multiple sclerosis."

De Jager and his team extracted RNA -- key molecules involved in making proteins from the instructions found in the DNA sequence -- from blood cells of patients with multiple sclerosis. After analyzing the samples, they found distinct sets of RNA molecules among the patient samples. These unique sets formed a transcriptional signature that distinguished two sets of multiple sclerosis patients -- MSa patients and MSb patients -- with those in the MSa group having a higher risk for future multiple sclerosis relapse.

According to the researchers, knowing the category a person with multiple sclerosis is in may help doctors make more informed treatment decisions. For instance, since a patient who falls into the MSa category is more likely to experience relapse, her doctor may consider a stronger treatment for the patient.

In light of the discovery, the researchers remain cautious about the findings.

"Our study is an important step towards the goal of personalized medicine in MS, but much work remains to be done to understand under which circumstance and in combination with which other information this transcriptional signature may become useful in a clinical setting," said De Jager.

However, from the pre-clinical perspective, the researchers recognize that the findings are essential because they build on earlier studies that had suggested that this structure might be present.

"The study will further enable the community of MS researchers to build upon this transcriptional signature with other data in order to enhance patient care in the future," said De Jager.

Darain Atkinson Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison ? CBS St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) -?Darain Atkinson,?co-owner and operator of??National Auto Warranty Services, Inc. was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment and ordered to pay more than $4 million in restitution for conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and filing false tax returns. (Darain?s brother, Cory Atkinson was sentenced to 3 years in prison earlier this month.)

Court documents show Darain Atkinson and his brother Cory Atkinson each?owned 50% of the business.? In January 2009, National Auto Warranty changed its name to US Fidelis, Inc.? National Auto Warranty /US Fidelis?routinely conducted business using the fictitious name of Dealer Services.? The brothers also operated related businesses using some form of the name US Fidelis, and owned a direct mail business, which was known as DS Direct.

The primary business of USF/NAWS was marketing and selling vehicle service contracts (VSCs) throughout the United States.? Typically, USF/NAWS acted as a broker/seller of VSCs on behalf of other VSC administrators.? USF/NAWS made a profit and attempted to make a profit by marking up the price of the VSC, which was often more than $1,000.? The total purchaser cost for a VSC was often greater than $2,000.? USF/NAWS used a variety of techniques to market and sell VSCs, including direct mail to consumers, media advertisements, and unsolicited telephone calls. A VSC was not a warranty or an extended warranty, and USF/NAWS had no affiliation with an automobile manufacturer,? no authority to provide an automobile manufacturer?s factory warranty and no authority or ability to alter or extend a factory warranty, according to the indictment.

According to the plea agreement, as part of the conspiracy, USF/NAWS employed a variety of false, deceptive and materially misleading sales and marketing techniques.? These techniques resulted in substantial sales of VSCs by USF/NAWS.? Among these techniques were mailers that were intended to mislead consumers into believing that the consumers were in some way extending a manufacturer?s warranty, and that failed to disclose material limitations on the VSCs being sold.

Darain Atkinson directed USF/NAWS personnel to fraudulently withhold substantial portions of refunds due to customers who cancelled their VSC and were owed a full or prorated refund.? USF/NAWS routinely fraudulently withheld approximately 40% of the total refund due to customers who legitimately cancelled and attempted to cancel their VSC.? Often, only customers who complained or threatened action were provided a full refund to which they were entitled.? USF/NAWS personnel routinely made the cancellation and refund process difficult to discourage purchasers from being able to obtain refunds to which they were entitled.

In addition to the conspiracy charge, with his earlier plea, Darain Atkinson also admitted that he filed a false tax return for the tax year 2006 that failed to include millions of dollars in distributions that he received from USF/NAWS.? According to the plea agreement, between 2006 and 2008, Darain and Cory Atkinson received millions in distributions from USF/NAWS, a substantial percentage of which funds were used to pay for their personal expenses.? For example, records from USF/NAWS indicate that in 2006, Darain Atkinson received distributions in excess of $13 million.? In 2007, they each received distributions in excess of $8 million; in 2008, in excess of $13 million.

Darain Atkinson, 47, St. Louis, MO, pled guilty April 9th, to one felony count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, and one felony count of filing false tax returns, and appeared today for sentencing before United States District Judge John A. Ross.

His brother Corey was sentenced last week to 40 months in prison and ordered to pay over $4 million restitution to the IRS.

This case was investigated by Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, United States Postal Inspection Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Missouri Attorney General?s Office.? Assistant United States Attorneys John Bodenhausen and Charles Birmingham are handling the case for the U.S. Attorney?s Office.

Adults may paddle students of opposite gender in Texas district

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - School administrators will be allowed to paddle students of the opposite sex under a rule approved unanimously Monday night by the school board in the North Texas community of Springtown.

Superintendent Michael Kelley said Tuesday the new policy would ensure both male and female students are treated equally since there are not enough administrators of both genders in some schools in Springtown, which has a population of about 2,600.

Under the previous policy, corporal punishment could only be carried out by an administrator who was of the same gender as the student. The new policy says that a school official of the same gender as the student must be in the room where the paddling takes place and that parents must provide written permission for their child to be paddled.

The punishment involves striking students on their clothed rear with a wooden paddle.

"We don't have a very large district and in our middle school there is only an assistant principal, who is a female," Kelley said. "If the old policy remains in place, then the parents of the boys at the middle school would not be able to request corporal punishment."

Texas is one of 19 states that allow public schools to administer corporal punishment, according to the Center for Effective Discipline. Even in those states, most urban schools have banned the practice and most districts that paddle kids are, like Springtown, small or rural communities. Texas allows parents to opt out of corporal punishment of their children.

In Springtown, which is northwest of Fort Worth, the paddling of two high school girls by a male assistant principal earlier this month prompted the change in policy. Kelley apologized to the girls during Monday night's school board meeting that their paddling violated the policy in place at the time.

It is not unusual for parents in Springtown to contact the school to request paddling for their children for offenses like using profanity or cheating on exams, Kelley said.

Jimmy Dunne, who heads the Texas-based group People Against Paddling Students, called Springtown's new policy "barbaric," and said he hopes it sparks debate that prompts Texas and other states to consider banning the practice.

"Children should not be hit with boards; it is legalized child abuse," Dunne said.

The Texas Association of School Boards recommends that corporal punishment be administered only by an administrator who is the same sex as the student.

Kelley said that corporal punishment works in small towns like Springtown because of the relationship between the district and the parents, most of whom have known each other all their lives.

"They're sitting beside that guy in church and they see that principal in the grocery store or at the restaurant," he said. "They have a sense of trust. So they'll call up and tell us, when their child commits an infraction, those parents will call up and tell that principal, 'Rather than in-school suspension, why don't you just give 'em a swat?'"

Europe has never been particularly fond of genetically modified (GM) foods, but a startling research paper published last week looks set to harden public and political opposition even further, despite a torrent of skepticism from scientists about the work.

The study, published in the peer-reviewed journal Food and Chemical Toxicology, looked for adverse health effects in rats fed NK603 maize (corn), developed by biotech company Monsanto to resist the herbicide glyphosate and approved for animal and human consumption in the European Union, United States and other countries. It reported that the rats developed higher levels of cancers, had larger cancerous tumors and died earlier than controls. The researchers have not conclusively identified a mechanism for the effect.

The rats were monitored for two years (almost their whole life?span), making this the first long-term study of maize containing these specific genes. About a dozen long-term studies of different GM crops have failed to find such stark health effects. An earlier test of NK603 maize in rats in a 90-day feeding trial ? the current regulatory norm ? sponsored by Monsanto showed no adverse effects.

The explosion of media coverage about the findings has energized opponents of GM food, especially in Europe. French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said that, if the results are confirmed, the government will press for a Europe-wide ban on the maize. The European Commission has instructed the independent European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) in Parma, Italy, to assess the study.

Many scientists, however, have already questioned the study?s methodology and findings. They assert that the data presented in the paper do not readily allow the claims to be independently assessed, and they question the study?s experimental design and its statistical analysis of any differences between the treated groups and controls. Other scientists point out that the Sprague-Dawley strain of rats used in the experiments has been shown to be susceptible to developing tumors spontaneously, particularly as they grow older, making it difficult to interpret the results. Monsanto itself said that the study ?does not meet minimum acceptable standards for this type of scientific research?.

The ?3.2-million (US$4.1-million) study was led by Gilles-Eric S?ralini, a molecular biologist at the University of Caen, France, in collaboration with the Paris-based Committee for Research and Independent Information on Genetic Engineering (CRIIGEN), whose scientific board he heads. CRIIGEN bills itself as an ?independent non-profit organization of scientific counter-expertise to study GMOs, pesticides and impacts of pollutants on health and environment, and to develop non polluting alternatives?. The article?s publication coincides with the launch this week of a book by S?ralini, Tous Cobayes? (All of Us Guinea-Pigs Now?), which tells the story of the research project and is accompanied by a film and a television documentary.

In a written response to Nature?s questions, S?ralini and Jo?l Spiroux de Vend?mois, president of CRIIGEN and a co-author of the paper, say that they have been surprised by the ?violence? and immediacy of scientists? criticisms. They argue that most of the critics are not toxicologists, and suggest that some may have competing interests, including working to develop transgenic crops. They also point out some errors by critics, such as claims that graphs in the paper showing rat survival over time do not include data for the controls.

MARIKANA, South Africa (AP) ? As South Africa's bloody and bitter mining strike dragged on its fifth week, London-registered Lonmin PLC announced Monday it is halting construction of a new shaft, putting 1,200 people out of work.

The strikes that have stopped work at seven gold and platinum mines have spread to the chrome sector, according to the official South African Press Association.

Meanwhile, police blocked rabblerousing politician Julius Malema from addressing some 3,000 strikers gathered at a stadium at the Lonmin mine at Marikana, northwest of Johannesburg.

"Arrest him!" one officer ordered, giving Malema 20 minutes to leave or face arrest. This caused Malema to take off with his entourage.

"I'm leaving. We're getting out of here. Why are you chasing me? Are you going to shoot me?" Malema taunted.

Police on Aug. 16 shot 112 striking Lonmin miners, killing 34, in the worst state violence seen in South Africa since apartheid ended in 1994.

Malema sprinted to his all-terrain vehicle and sped off. Police piled into two armored cars and two other police vehicles and followed Malema at high speed on muddy dirt tracks that wind their way through the tin-shack ghetto with no water or electricity that is home to thousands of Lonmin's miners. The police vehicles and a helicopter hovering above the politician's car literally drove Malema out of town, making sure that he got onto a two-lane highway without speaking to any crowds. Police did not say on what grounds they blocked Malema or threatened him with arrest.

Malema, who was expelled from the ruling African National Congress in April for "sowing disunity," has called for a nationwide mining strike, feeding on the anger of miners to boost his campaign to oust South African President Jacob Zuma as leader of the ANC.

Armed soldiers for the first time joined police in armored cars standing guard at Lonmin earlier Monday. A truck-mounted water cannon stood by as a helicopter flew overhead.

Church and opposition leaders condemned the state security for its heavy-handed action against the strikers, saying it mirrors the force used years ago by the white minority apartheid regime. The opposition Congress of the People party demanded the withdrawal of some 1,000 soldiers trucked over the weekend into the "platinum belt" 100 kilometers (60 miles) northwest of Johannesburg.

In Johannesburg, President Jacob Zuma called for a speedy resolution to the mining strikes. He said the strikes have cost South Africa close to 4.5 billion rand (nearly $563 million) in lost gold and platinum production this year.

Zuma told a conference of the Congress of South African Trade Unions that this year's work stoppages have subtracted nearly 3.1 billion rand ($388 million) from the national treasury.

He blamed poor living and working conditions of miners on the apartheid past and the failures of mining companies to honor a charter to improve the lives of miners.

Zuma said mining companies are required to improve the housing and living conditions of workers and also to invest in skills development, racial equity in employment and ownership as well as local community development. He said violence cannot become a culture of South African labor relations.

Union rivalries and demands for better pay have stopped work at one gold and seven platinum mines. Aquarius Platinum said work resumed at its mine Monday, and Anglo American Platinum said it would restart operations Tuesday at its four mines under police security.

A strike leader said some miners at Samancor Chrome stopped work Friday demanding a minimum take-home pay of 12,500 rand ($1,560), according to SAPA.

It is unclear how many miners are on strike in the different stoppages. Mining companies claim it is a minority with tens of thousands of workers not reporting for duty because of violent threats and intimidation. Previous marches by strikers brandishing machetes, spears and clubs have numbered several thousand.

Lonmin said negotiations would continue Monday after strikers last week rejected an offer of 16 to 21 percent pay increases that fell far short of the demands of striking rock drill operators for a minimum monthly take-home pay of R12,500 ($1,560).

The chief economist of the Chamber of Mines, Roger Baxter, on Monday told Talk Radio 702 that the average rock drill operator earns an average monthly total before deductions of 11,689 rands ($1,460) which he said put those workers in the top 20 percent of all earners in South Africa. For comparison, Baxter noted that semi-skilled steel and industry workers earn a monthly total of 4,000 to 5,000 rands ($500 to $625). Deductions often account for half a workers' salary.

On Saturday, police fired rubber bullets and tear gas at a shantytown neighboring Lonmin mine, where officers killed 34 miners on Aug. 16 in attacks that shocked the nation of 48 million. The weekend crackdown was condemned by the head of the South African Council of Churches.

"Government must be crazy believing that what to me resembles an apartheid-era crackdown can succeed," said Anglican Bishop Jo Seoka, the council president. "We must not forget that such crackdowns in the past led to more resistance and government can ill afford to be seen as the enemy of the people that put them in power."
